O2 participation at ISAES 2025 in Punta Arenas

The Observatório Oceanográfico (O²/UFF) participated in ISAES 2025 – International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences, held in Punta Arenas, Chile, one of the most relevant international events dedicated to research on the Antarctic continent.

Representing the laboratory, Prof. André Belem, coordinator of O² and founder of the Antarctic Observatory, actively took part in the symposium, presenting three research contributions developed by the O² and AO teams:

Throughout the event, researchers from multiple countries gathered in a rich environment for scientific exchange, the establishment of new collaborations, and discussions on the future directions of Antarctic research in the coming decades.

For Prof. Belem, participation in ISAES 2025 represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the Observatory’s international engagement:

“Events such as ISAES are essential for aligning our research with the international community, expanding collaborations, and building bridges between different fields of knowledge. Bringing the work of O² and the Antarctic Observatory to this forum reinforces our commitment to open, impactful science.”

The symposium proved to be fertile ground for new ideas, connections, and future projects that are expected to benefit both scientific production and the training of students involved in research at O² and AO.
