I am a petroleum engineer, graduated in 2018 from UNESA, and from early on I was drawn to simulations. During my undergraduate studies, I did well in the programming courses, but I confess I didn’t give them much value at the time. And, as life tends to take its turns, it was precisely that detail that would end up becoming central to my academic and professional path.
Although I enjoyed the field, it didn’t spark as much interest in me as I had expected. In 2019, I set out in search of a new path and began a master’s degree in Geochemistry, which was initially meant to focus on the simulation of produced-water reinjection. Then the pandemic arrived, and the world turned upside down. Unable to obtain the data I needed, I turned to the data available within the department and ended up diving headfirst into the world of paleoceanography — a fascinating universe, quite different from what I was used to. My work ultimately dealt with mercury deposition in the western South Atlantic over the last 70,000 years.
At the end of the master’s, I received an offer to join a project tied to a doctorate. It was a somewhat curious turn: my world would once again return to oil and simulation and, on top of that, I would still have to learn Python. I decided to embark on this new journey, returning to the field of my undergraduate degree, but now with a completely new horizon. So, in 2022, I began my doctorate in Geology and Geophysics at PPG-DOT, alongside joining a project on organic facies modeling, devoting myself to applying ML in the oil and gas industry. During the doctorate, I also had the opportunity to carry out a sandwich period at the University of Toronto, in Canada (2023–2024), where I deepened my work in ML development for the sector. And it was there that I truly realized my passion lay in software development.
During this period of the doctorate, I worked as a data scientist and software engineer, developing 1D and 3D modeling software, automated ML pipelines, and tools for processing geophysical and geochemical data. It was then that I consolidated the bridge between my geological knowledge and programming, and grew even more certain that my focus would, in fact, be software engineering and data science.
With that, I decided to move into the world of programming for good. I currently work in software development, where I have built ML systems, LLM-based solutions, and high-performance data-collection infrastructure. I have solid experience in Python, SQL, data engineering, databases, AWS, and GCP, among other technologies.

Personal interests
Outside academia and work, I like to keep an active routine: I play futevôlei (footvolley) and train at the gym almost every day. On top of that, dance has always been part of my life — I dance samba de gafieira and zouk. I’m an avid fantasy reader, with Brandon Sanderson (the Cosmere universe) and Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time) among my favorite authors. In my free time, I enjoy computer games and, more recently, I’ve been getting into tabletop RPGs with D&D.
