Hi, I’m Milla! 🌱
I hold a teaching certification from high school (Magistério) and am currently an undergraduate student in Environmental Science. Throughout my education, I’ve been seeking to integrate environmental education and science communication as central pillars of my studies and practice.
I’m part of the Oceanographic Observatory (O2) as an Undergraduate Research Fellow, where I study geotechnologies applied to coastal vulnerability analysis in the state of Rio de Janeiro under climate change scenarios. Since 2024, I’ve also been part of the Antarctic Observatory research project, linked to O2, as a Geospatial Analyst. In this project, I work with remote sensing and Python programming to monitor environmental changes in Antarctica, focusing on penguin populations and investigating their role as biomonitors of environmental transformations in the Antarctic Peninsula.
Alongside my research, I have a hands-on trajectory in environmental education and conservation. I’ve worked as an art educator at the Museu do Meio Ambiente (at the Jardim Botânico), as an apprentice and monitor at the Universidade Indígena Pluriétnica Aldeia Maracanã, and as a volunteer in the Monitora Program (ICMBio) at the Serra dos Órgãos National Park. I also regularly take part in trail maintenance and reforestation efforts.
When I’m not at the university, at O2, or involved in these projects, you’ll likely find me hiking, camping, exploring new places, or just enjoying nature. I’m also passionate about animals, crochet, suspense books, and music.
